The long history of New Teddys began in 2004 in Paje. From its beginnings as a very wild party spot in Paje, New Teddy’s has grown over the years, moved to Jambiani and has hardly any silly ideas left.

More mature, self-assured, crisis-tested and cool than ever, the lodge on Zanzibar’s east coast is no longer just a place for backpackers, but for all travellers who appreciate a relaxed, authentic, cosmopolitan and colourful atmosphere.

Leonie has been running her favourite place since 2015. What the German finds most fascinating about life in Zanzibar is the people’s attitude to life. Everything is possible, nothing is compulsory. Life is now. Selina joined the management team in 2021 and the two of them share not only the same values and outlook, but also a deep love for the island and Teddy’s.

At New Teddy’s on the Beach, we said goodbye to single-use plastics and use dispensers instead. We support local recycling initiatives and gently remind our guests to respect Zanzibar’s way of travel — conscious, responsible and kind.
